If you’re like us, masks are essential to your everyday activities. It is important to wear a mask when you go out to protect yourself and others from the dangers of COVID-19. However for many, wearing a mask can sometimes lead to an unpleasant side: maskne— acne caused by masks.

Have no fear! We, at Bella Clinic, have some complied some tips from our trusted team  on how to combat maskne.

  1. Wash your face with a non-comedogenic cleanser, before and after wearing a mask

It is important that you apply your mask to a clean and moisturized face— BEFORE AND AFTER wearing a mask— in order to avoid oils and dirt from accumulating on your face. At Bella Clinic, we recommend washing your face with a non-comedogenic cleanser.

Many skincare care and makeup products often come with a label  “non-comedogenic.” But more often than not, this label is not included. It becomes up to the consumer. Non-comedogenic products do not contain ingredients which can clog pores, which can lead to breakouts, acne, and pimples.

  1. After washing your face, it’s important to apply Vitamin C

Vitamin C is essential to any skincare routine as it is known for addressing issues such as hyperpigmentation, photoaging, and wrinkles. However, Vitamin C also hydrates your skin deeply. We recommend medical-grade Vitamin C serums suitable for your skin type all available, all available at Bella Clinic. Simply apply two or three drops and apply a thin layer to your face, neck and chest.

A good Vitamin C serum will keep your skin looking refreshed, hydrated and healthy—all the while protecting you against acne that could be formed as a result of clogged pores.

  1. Moisturize your skin with a light-weight moisturizer, that will not clog your pores

One of the most important aspects of your skincare routine is making sure that you are using an appropriate moisturizer that keeps your skin feeling healthy and refreshed. Most importantly, moisturizing can reduce the chance of dryness or oiliness—both of are catalysts for acne.

We recommend lightweight moisturizers available at bella clinic which provides lightweight, long-lasting hydration in accordance to your skin type. To schedule a consultation to find out which moisturizer is best for you, please contact Bella Clinic.

  1. Don’t forget to wear sunscreen to protect your skin from the sun

Contrary to popular belief, we still recommend using a daily sunscreen before going out. The Skin Cancer Foundation recommends using a “daily broad spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher.” While wearing a mask can offer some added protection from the sun, it certainly does not replace the need for sunscreen use.

At Bella Clinic a variety of  Skinceuticals and Vivier sunscreens are available for pick-up.

  1. Avoid wearing makeup entirely when wearing a mask. If necessary, keep it light-weight.

Our team at Bella Clinic unanimously agreed that makeup should be avoided when wearing a mask. However, if wearing makeup is a necessity then it is advisable to stick to formulas that are light-weight. Our team of experts recommend using a health compliant face mask made of cotton. It is also advisable to wash your mask everyday, in order to remove any dirt or sweat that might accumulate over the course of your busy day.

During these trying times, it is important that we take precautions to care for our health and those around us. But that does not mean that your skin has to suffer.  To learn more about the products mentioned or to help treat persistent maskne, please call Bella Clinic at 647-885-1060.
